Piano (the short for the Italian word „pianoforte”) is a widespread musical instrument, where the sound is produced by metal strings attached to a wooden soundboard, hit by little hammers covered with felt, through ivories. Modern pianos have the strings fitted in a metal frame, usually molten from casting and polished with varnish and bronze powder (which is why it is also called, improperly, ” bronze plate”). It is designed to withstand the high pressure exerted by the strings, which could, otherwise, distort the piano’s wooden structure.
